“Thank you David for the fascinating presentation. It’s the first time I’ve ever taken a course from you and I was really glad I signed up. You manage to be incredibly erudite and entertaining at the same time. Quite a feat!”

David Feder is an experienced educator, programmer, and administrator, with a background in Jewish schools, collegiate settings, and community work. He has published writing on both the history and future of the American and Israeli Jewish communities. He specializes in community-building, informal education, and traditional and alternative Jewish practice.
David did his PhD coursework and research at Brandeis University and in Israel, studying ideology and violence in the early Zionist movement. He is particularly inspired to build Jewish peoplehood that celebrates the variety of Jewish ideas as well as the diversity of the Jewish historical experience.
In his off hours, David can be found writing, investigating the history of food and drink, telling stories, and constructing homemade toys. He has a thing for Hobbits that his wife, the program director for Tivnu: Building Justice, doesn’t get, but his excellent medium-sized son is pretty on board with. He understands that housing is a hot commodity in Portland, but all things being equal, he’d like to live in a treehouse.
